About Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)
A Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) is a critical quality assurance process carried out before equipment is shipped to its final destination. FAT is designed to verify that the equipment has been manufactured according to the required specifications and functions as intended, Furthermore FAT helps confirm that the equipment is ready to be installed at the site.
Purpose of FAT:
- Verification: Ensure the equipment meets all contractual specifications and functional requirements.
- Quality Control: To detect any issues or defects in the equipment before it is shipped to the site, minimizing the risk of problems during installation and operation. It also reduces the risk of potential safety hazards.
- Customer Satisfaction: To assure the customer that the equipment will perform as expected in their operational environment.
In-person FAT
In-person FAT is conducted and witnessed in person by the customer at the factory. Customers can touch and feel the equipment while it is in operational mode.
Virtual FAT
When an in-person Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) isn't possible or preferred, some factories offer innovative remote alternatives for observing FAT on selected products. customers can access live testing and inspections, ensuring their product's functionality by using phone and tablet cameras in the factory combined with secure video conferencing tools. During the FAT period, factory and remote customer teams set specific hours to communicate and video chat, address questions, review drawings, or showcase additional details.
